Offline Probe Reading provides for a comfortable way of collecting readings in any order without having to carry the Boson handheld with you. The handheld can be left behind in the vehicle or the office. A small subdivision or street can be collected and then transferred later to the handheld while in the field or in the vehicle.
The process is to connect the probe to the handheld and then collect the readings. The first reading without the handheld within close enough range (30 feet) will cause the probe to give up contacting the handheld and begin storing the readings within its memory. When you are finished with the short section, you hold the probe trigger long enough to bring up the bluetooth radio on the probe, tap the RECONNECT button on the handheld. When they are linked again, squeeze the probe trigger to transfer the readings over.
The probe will have to be charged somewhat before you can use it. Charge if necessary.
Tap the PROBE READING button from the Main form.
The next form prompt you to press the Proceed button to connect to the probe. Do not tap Proceed yet. Wait for the probe to start clicking.
Press and hold the probe's trigger for about 12 seconds. The display will change several times. You will see asterisks on the display from left to right on the second line. Continue to hold the trigger. A list of protocols will be displayed. Continue to hold the trigger for another 6 seconds until the display reads: RELEASE BUTTON NOW. Release the trigger.
The probe will count down from 300.
Now that the probe is clicking, tap the Proceed button on the handheld.
The handheld will attempt to contact the probe and will probe will stop clicking when the connection is made.
If the clicking does not stop, the probe connection failed. Follow the probe setup to ensure all is correct. Click here to review setup: Probe Setup
Find a meter with a touch pad. Take a probe reading a few times to make sure the reading(s) are transferred to the handheld.
If the readings are not coming into the handheld, the probe's address is probably not setup correctly. Click here to review setup: Probe Setup
When the testing is finished, tap Skip Test. Otherwise, tap Cancel to return to the Main form.
The route screen will be shown.
The down arrow or up arrow button in the lower right corner of the screen indicates the direction the route will be read. If the arrow is pointing down, the meters will appear in forward route order. Otherwise, if the arrow is pointing up, the meters will appear in reverse route order.
Remember, that the handheld will not be carried in this mode. It is expected that you will leave the handheld in the vehicle or the office while collecting meter readings with the probe.
Collect the meters while walking with just the probe and without the Boson handheld.
On the first meter away from the handheld, the probe will try to transmit to the handheld but will fail.
Continue collecting the rest of the readings.
As long as the memory is enabled, you will see the transmit record count message increase from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4, etc. The readings are building in the memory of the probe.
Continue allowing the probe to collect and store the readings on the probe.
When you get back to the Boson handheld, squeeze and hold the trigger on the probe until the clicking starts. This is the same procedure as Connect to the probe above.
Tap the RECONNECT button on the handheld. The clicking will stop after the connection is made.
Squeeze the trigger on the probe either on a meter or off a meter. If you did not read a meter, an error will appear probe that no meter was read. Regardless, you will observe the readings going into the handheld.
Repeat offline reading as much as necessary and repeat the procedure above. You will only need to start with preparing the handheld's Bluetooth radio and tapping RECONNECT. There are no other options are methods to the PROBE form.
